I have managed to get some sailing in recently but nothing worthy of a single post so here is a collection of miscellaneous photos taken over the past few months.
I've also added a Solent weather widget on the right. If you click on the its link you can obtain longer-term and overnight information.
A few pics from the Eastern Solent again around Spithead
Nomans Land fort to Starboard.
Portsmouth to Port.
Past Horse Sand fort
The Horse Sand starboard hand buoy (wrong side as it's starboard hand coming the other way into the Solent)
and the Outer Spit buoy which is solar-powered.
Marine & Towage Services (MTS) vessel Vortex.
Dauntsey's Jolie Brise beating under main, jib and staysail.
Calshot lifeboat at its mooring. This is the Sarah Emily Harrop, a Tyne class vessel. Calshot was downgraded a while ago from the larger Arun class.
On 20 June about 20 barrels of gas-oil were spilled from a tanker unloading alongside the Fawley Terminal. This found its way onto the beaches to the West of Hillhead, closing them for 4 days whilst the oil was cleared. Most of this work was done by these two vessels from the Southampton-based Oilspill Response Unit.
Peter David, above and the larger Earl 2, below.
Here they are in action running out the containment boom (had to heave-to in order to take the film, not a very steady condition!):
